Wednesday January 8th 2024 Your Hamilton Lady Marines played host to Fort Wayne North Side on Wednesday evening. The Marines came out with a great deal of energy and effort. Tristen Creager got Hamilton on the scoreboard with a 15 foot jumper from an underneath out of bounds play but a couple deep threes by the Legends of North Side put the score at 2-10 with 4:30 left in the first quarter. TeigAnn Freed made a great cut while facing full court pressure leading to a deep pass allowing her to draw a shooting foul where she connected of the first of two free throws. If it works once why not try it again, as Bella Rivera hit Freed again for another 1-2 free throw connection bringing the score to 4-10 with 3:20 left forcing a timeout by North Side. After making her third free throw, TeigAnn knocked down a deep 2 with just over 2 minutes left making the score 7-12. Taryn Kintz scored on a great inbounds play through the contact for the basket and foul to bring the game within 2 points at 10-12. Creager drove in transition for an easy layup just before the end of the quarter to close out the 1st at 12-14. Freed started the second quarter with a great offensive putback to tie things up at 14 before a 19-0 North Side run that eventually came to a stop with a Freed free throw. North Side took a 15-39 lead into halftime. Freed once again got to the foul line as she went 1-2 to start the second half. Creager followed that up with a 2 point bucket to make the score 18-45 with just under 4 minutes left in the third quarter. Tristen and Marissa Mercer each scored one free throw out of two to make the game 20-60. TeigAnn made a 2 point basket followed by a Creager free throw to bring the final score to 23-68. The Lady Marines played with energy from the start and should be proud of the effort given against a bigger 4A school. The girls will be back in action Saturday as part of a triple header with our boys program at South Bend Trinity starting at noon.
