May 9th 2025 Lady Marines Softball Honors Seniors, Battles Churubusco JV Hamilton’s softball team hosted Churubusco's JV squad Thursday evening, but the highlight of the night came before the first pitch, as the Lady Marines recognized three seniors: Manager Victoria Dohner, Catcher Taryn Kintz, and Center Fielder Aiyanna Skees for their dedication and contributions to the program. Despite a strong effort, Hamilton came up short, falling 5-1. Karly Nester scored the lone run after reaching base with a walk. Skees had a single, Brenna Mercer showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks, while Marissa Mercer walked once. On the mound, Bella Rivera struck out eight over four innings, and Marissa Mercer added three more Ks in three innings of relief. The Lady Marines return to action Saturday morning in Fort Wayne at North Side for a three-way tournament, with the first game scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Marines Baseball Falls to Churubusco in Home Contest The Hamilton varsity baseball team hosted the Churubusco Eagles on Thursday and took a tough 18-3 loss. Offensively, Clayton Spaw went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk, and Dylan Holiday added a single and an RBI. Harrison Richter drove in a run, while Drew Merit and Zane Ritter showed good discipline at the plate, each drawing two walks. Ritter also reached base after being hit by a pitch. Trenton Kintz contributed with a single, and Spencer Bredemeyer reached base with a walk. The Marines will look to bounce back on Monday with a home conference matchup against Elkhart Christian at 5:30 p.m. Junior High Track and Field Competes in Four-Way Duel at Westview Hamilton Junior High Track and Field traveled to Westview for a multi-school meet against Westview, Oak Farm, and Angola. The meet was scored in duel format, and the Marines showed resilience and promise across events. Girls Team Results: Angola 90 – Hamilton 27 Westview 88 – Hamilton 26 Hamilton 70 – Oak Farm 37 Boys Team Results: Westview 87 – Hamilton 31 Angola 75 – Hamilton 39 Hamilton 69 – Oak Farm 32 Top Individual Performers placing in the top 5 of their event: Boys: Ace Hill: 1st in 400m (59.00) and 1st in 110 hurdles (18.1) Abbott Lingo: 2nd in 200 hurdles (29.4), 1st in high jump (5-04), 3rd in long jump (15-01) Lucas Taylor: 4th in 800m (2:27) and 4th in mile (5:12) Marcus Sommers: 5th in high jump (4-06) Kevin Lanning: 2nd in discus (92-03) Boys 4x400 Relay: 2nd place (4:14.50) Girls: Piper DePriest: 4th in 200m (30.40), 4th in 200m (35.5) Lydia Hicks: 2nd in 100 hurdles (18.2), 2nd in 200m (33.60), 4th in long jump (12-08.25) Lydia Szeman: 5th in 100 hurdles (20.0) Heidi Richter: 1st in high jump (4-04) Giana Ceci: 2nd in discus (63-11) Girls 4x400 Relay: 3rd place (5:05.50) The Junior High squad will head to Bethany Christian on Saturday for the Hoosier Plains Conference Meet.
