Lady Marines Win Legends Classic

May 12th 2025 The Hamilton Lady Marines brought home some hardware this past weekend after a dominant showing at the Legends Classic in Fort Wayne. The varsity softball team traveled to North Side High School for the three-way tournament featuring Fort Wayne North Side and Wayne High School, and they returned home as champions. In Game 1, the Lady Marines faced off against Wayne High School and came away with a 12-3 victory. Hamilton’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Taryn Kintz went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, and two runs scored. Karly Nester also contributed two singles and scored twice. Tristen Creager led the hit parade, going 3-for-4 with three singles and three runs. Brenna Mercer added a double and a run, while Bella Rivera chipped in with both a single and a double, scoring two runs. Tsumiya Sato had a single and crossed the plate twice, and Marissa Mercer contributed a single and a run. On the mound, M. Mercer pitched the first three innings and notched 3 strikeouts. Rivera closed out the final three innings, adding 5 strikeouts to secure the win. In the championship game against host North Side, Hamilton made a statement with a 17-1 rout to claim the Legends Classic title. Kintz showcased her power at the plate with a single, double, and triple, scoring three runs. Creager continued her hot streak, tallying two singles and a double while scoring three times. B. Mercer crushed a triple and also scored three runs. Rivera had two singles and scored twice. Nester, Sato, and M. Mercer each scored twice, while Skye Allen added a single. M. Mercer dominated from the circle again, pitching four innings with six strikeouts. Rivera came in for the fifth inning to close the game and added one more strikeout. The Lady Marines were greeted with a hero’s welcome back in Hamilton, taking a celebratory parade ride around town on one of the town's fire truck. With the Legends Classic trophy in hand, the team now sets its sights on their next matchup — a home game against Angola’s JV squad this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
